

Following graduation, Ray proudly served our nation as a Lieutenant with the United States Air Force during the Korean War conflict. He would earn his B.A. and M.A. in Math Education from Huntington College, an additional forty-five hours in Math Education from the University of Michigan, a B.A. IN Computer Programming from Ball State University, and additional certifications from three summer Math Institutes including Oberlin College of Oberlin, Ohio and University of Arkansas of Fayetteville, Arkansas. Ray would meet the love of his life, Kathryn Densmore, while at Huntington College and they would wed on June 26, 1954 in Hillsdale, Michigan.
Ray would spend his career enriching the lives of young people, sharing his passion for mathematics teaching mathematics at Morenci High School and professor of algebra at Adrian College and Huntington Colleges; he would retire from Magnavox as a Computer Programmer.
Ray had many passions and interests, including football, basketball and singing but nothing compared to his love for teaching which continued outside the classroom. He would use his talents and sing in the choir as well as serve as a Sunday school teacher for over thirty years at Friends Church of Tecumseh, Michigan, College Park United Brethren Church of Huntington, Indiana and Aldersgate United Methodist Church of Fort Wayne.
Ray is survived by his children, Judy (Richard) Brooner, Kent Sommers, and Daniel (Marsha) Sommers; grandchildren, Jonathon (Deniesha) Chapman, James (Hannah) Brooner, Josef (Elizabeth) Brooner, Janesse Brooner, Danielle Sommers, Rachel (Stephen) Atkinson, and Michael Sommers; great-grandchildren, Faithe French, Jonathon Chapman, Jr., Kimora Chapman, Emmaline Brooner and Leo Brooner. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Kathryn (née Densmore) Sommers.
Funeral Service is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 2417 Getz Road with calling two hours prior; Pastor Tom Ream officiating. Interment at Toledo Memorial Park & Mausoleum, Sylvania, Ohio.
