

Richard Allen Chappell, 64, of Lake Everett went into the arms of our Lord and Savior on Monday July 5, 2021 at his home. Rick was born at St. Joseph Hospital on November 20, 1956 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Wayne and Glennis Jean Douglas. He grew up on a horse farm in Spencerville, Indiana where he enjoyed caring for several animals. Rick graduated from East Side High School in 1974. During his 36 year marriage to Cindy (Auld) Chappell they welcomed their children, Jeffery Allen and Teresa Ann. Rick was a retired tow truck driver and dispatcher for Allen County Towing and spent time working for Mullens Lawncare and Snow Removal. Rick took pride in his custom Screamin' Eagle Harley Davidson motorcycle. He enjoyed collecting eagles, knives, and Beanie Babies. Rick enjoyed fishing on the local lakes, specifically for bluegill and crappies, and in previous years he enjoyed trap shooting and small game hunting. He enjoyed listening to loud country music, building model cars, playing horseshoes and corn hole with friends and family, and enjoyed searching the woods for morel mushrooms. Rick was an avid NASCAR enthusiast and regularly attended the Arcola Truck and Tractor Pulls. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, specifically his grandchildren. Rick also shared an abundance of love for his two fur companions – his miniature schnauzer, Shorty and American bulldog, Charley. Over the years he attended Spencerville United Methodist, Churubusco United Methodist, and Lake Chapel United Methodist churches. He is survived by his son, Jeffery (Elisha) Chappell and daughter Teresa (Steven) DeWitt; grandchildren, Tycee and Logan Chappell and Abel, Isaac, Marissa, Kieandra, and Emagin DeWitt; two great grandchildren are expected later this year; mother, Glennis Jean Douglas; brother, Randy (Lois) Chappell; nephews, Troy and Cody; niece, Cortney; and a host of close friends from Lake Everett where he lived for the past 40+ years. Rick was predeceased by his father, Wayne Douglas; sister, L. Renea Baker; and grandparents, Leroy and Georgia (Morningstar) Anderson. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 16, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services - Highland Park located at 2430 East Wallen Road in Fort Wayne with calling two hours prior. Serving in the capacity of pallbearers are Jeffery Chappell with grandson, Isaac DeWitt; son-in law, Steven DeWitt with grandson, Abel DeWitt; grandson, Logan Chappell; brother, Randy Chappell; nephews, Troy Chappell and Cody Baker; friends, Joshua West and William (BJ) Brinker.
