Robert F Gray Jr, 72, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2018 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne following a long illness. He was born in Hazleton, IN, to the late Robert and Bettie Gray. Bob was a 1963 graduate of old Central High School in Evansville, In. He earned a baseball scholarship to the University of Evansville, and was a member of the TKE fraternity. He joined the Army and was an intelligence specialist with the 11th Armored Cavalry (the Black Horse) in Vietnam. Upon discharge from the Army, Bob earned a bachelor’s degree from the University Of Southern Indiana in Evansville. He taught elementary education in Frankfort, In., and Zanesville Ohio for over 15 years and was also a math instructor at Muskingum Tech, also in Zanesville. Robert coached high school football, baseball and wrestling for several years. Prior to his retirement, Bob was a manager for Meijer in Kokomo, Indiana. Bob and his wife lived in Arkansas, Georgia, and Ohio during his retirement, finally returning to Indiana. Bob was a life member of the 11th Armored Cavalry’s Veterans of Vietnam and Cambodia, an avid golfer and bowler. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Carolyn S. Gray of Fort Wayne, IN; sons, Nick (Lauren Vautaw) Gray of Kokomo, IN; Alex Gray of Pittsburgh, PA; grandson Owen Gray, twin granddaughters Fiona and Mila Gray, grand dog, Moogie and his companion dog, Parker. Sister-in-laws and Brother-in-laws include Lisa Burke, Gary (Jina) Burke, and J. Scott (Jo) Burke and sister Mary Francis Gray all of Evansville, Indiana. Robert was preceded in death by son, John Andrew Gray, and 2 sisters.
