Ronald Lee Campbell of Leo, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 13, 2025, after 91 years full of family, laughter, card-playing, memories, and love. Ron was born on August 14, 1934, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The day after he turned 18, Ron married his sweetheart Helen, with whom he eventually shared 73 years of marriage. Although he had a full ride scholarship to MIT at the end of high school, Ron chose Helen over college, and together, they raised 6 children who went on to have children of their own, who had children of their own. Ron loved every single one of his family members dearly - including his “river family” neighbors next to him on the St. Joe River in Leo where he and Helen lived for over 50 years.
Ron, also known as Poppop, Pops, Uncle Ron, and many other names, loved playing cards and games, playing pool with his friends, reading books, renovating parts of his home, and simply making new memories with his family, whether at home or on family vacations. More than any of those hobbies, he loved his wife - an example of love for everyone around to marvel at and strive for. Ron was also a faithful follower of Jesus; showing others the hope and love that can be found in Him.
Ron worked at Magnavox from 1966 to 1993, when he retired at 59 ½ years of age, only to have a desire to work more - which he did at International Truck, teaching the engineers about geometric dimensioning and tolerances.
Ron’s passion, wit, intellect, and love were known to any who knew him. He dreamed big and inspired those around him to stretch themselves. Ron won’t just be remembered for one or two things; he leaves behind a truly remarkable legacy for his family and friends. His life is an incredible example of how we are all called to live not for ourselves, but for everyone God puts into our lives. Share love, make memories, pour yourself out for your family and friends.
Ron is survived by his wife Helen; brother, Barry Campbell; children, David (Nona) Campbell, Lori (Quin) Wegenka, Lisa (Bill) Miller, and Kevin Campbell; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Eva (Stone) Campbell, and his children, Julie and Marc.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
