

Ronald E. “Smitty” Smith passed away peacefully at home after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer on December 31, 2024. He was surrounded by his wife, Stephanie; a sister-in-law, Lisa Howell; adopted brother, Mark Till and adopted granddaughter, Valeria (Salazar) Till; his three beloved dogs, Archie, Charlie and Kuger.
He retired from GAI Consultants as the Business Development Director. He was a United States Army Veteran from 1969- 1971. Smitty enjoyed spending time at the lake, board games and of course watching The Ohio State and The Cleveland Browns football teams.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Stephanie; sister-in-laws, Lisa (Curt) Howell of Roanoke, IN, Gretchen (Randall Hyman) Anderson of Charleston, S.C, Heidi (Gary) Elliot of Camden, SC; brother-in-law, Dr. Michael (Gretchen) Miller, of Evansville, IN; several nieces and nephews, Patrick (Jamie) Anderson of Charleston, SC, Megan (Nick) Reasner of Charleston, SC, Tyler (Andrew Benton) of Charlotte, NC, Eric (Allison) Miller of Lafayette, CO, Maria (Jacob) Bourland of Charleston, SC; great nephews, Finn Reasner and Miles Anderson; little sister and best buddy, Anne ( Etta) Fremion; adopted family Mark and Jaidith (Salazar) Till and adopted granddaughter Valeria (Salazar) Till.
Smitty was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Matilda Smith.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers a tree planted in his name. Memorials may be made to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana, Humane Fort Wayne or Animal Care and Control of Fort Wayne.
The Smith family wants to thank Parkview Hospice for their excellent care and compassion and especially Nurse Lisa who was with us through this part of his journey.
