

Roy D Chapman Jr, 89, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023. Born on May 15, 1934, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Roy D and Ivola (Nickolson) Chapman. Roy retired from Lincoln Graphics after over 22 years of service as a road salesman, and worked for Royal Lace Paper Co, for 18 years as an Artist and Art Director. After retirement Roy went to work for First Call Express, and Amvets (American Veterans) as well as VSO (Veterans Service Officer) at the Fort Wayne Northern Indiana VA Hospital, as well as volunteering there. Roy was an Army veteran serving two years in active duty, followed by 4 years of service in the Army Reserves, completing his service and receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1964. Roy was a lifetime member of the AMVETS, as well as serving as a Post Commander for Post #97, as well as serving as the district 2 commander as well, and was awarded AMVET of the year in 1997-1998. Roy was a recipient of the Hoover Award for Journalism and was the MOST SADDEST of Sad Sacks Unit 55. Roy was an art counselor for the Ft Wayne Boy scouts. Roy held several offices at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles#248. Roy graduated from Huntertown High School, the Fort Wayne Art School, and IPFW earning a Bachelor degree in Fine Arts, as well as attending North Texas Tech. Roy enjoyed Golf, Bowling, Painting, and entering Art Shows, throughout the state of Indiana, winning several awards. Roy won the Art Excellence award from Grant County. Roy also had his own Art Designing business, designing dash boards for a major boat manufacturing company in Angola. Roy lived his life to the fullest with his wife Donna, traveling and vacationing in Biscayne Bay, up and down the intercoastal waterways and the Florida Keys. Roy and Donna traveled to California, and Arizona, visiting family and friends, had a very good life enjoying each other to the fullest. He is survived by his wife of more than 23 years, Madonna “Donna” (Brown) Chapman; children, Sheryl “Sherry” (Dwight) Taylor-Ritchey, Jerrold Taylor, and Ricky Taylor; sister, Virginia (James) Clark; grandchildren, Daniel (Shannon), Stacey (Chad), Ricky (April), Carrie (Matt), and Kimberly (Michael), and several great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren as well as a host of family and friends. Funeral service will be 1:30pm, Friday, August 4, 2023, at D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Calling will also be held from 4 to 8pm, Thursday, August 3, 2023, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne. Memorial donations may be given to the family.
