Ruth M. Hudson

Ruth M. Hudson, 94, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2022, at Lutheran Life Villages of Kendallville, Indiana. She was born April 29, 1928, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the daughter of the late William August and Mildred Ann Weil.

As a teenager, Ruth enjoyed taking the bus downtown with her girlfriends from North Side High School. They enjoyed eating out, going to the Emboyed Theater to see movies, shopping downtown, and they all enjoyed dancing to the big bands. Summer swimming was done at Lake of the Woods. She took office courses, such as shorthand, in high school and graduated from North Side High School. She met her future husband on a blind date set up by her best friend.

Ruth was a Girl Scout leader for her daughter’s troop, and she was a good cook. Family members enjoyed her homemade macaroni and cheese, sugar cream pie, and the variety of Christmas cookies she made. She always enjoyed listening to organ and piano music, and in retirement, she learned how to play the organ. Both she and her husband were members of bowling teams throughout the years. Ruth was a cashier at Maloleys for 17 years, retiring in 1982. She was a former member of Simpson United Methodist Church.

Ruth is survived by her son, David N. (Lori) Hudson; 6 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Earl “Ned” Hudson; son, William A. Hudson; daughter, Sandra L. Laughlin; granddaughter, Shari Hudson Godfrey; and a great-grandson, Gabriel Hudson.

A graveside service and burial will be held at 3:00pm on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at Lindenwood Cemetery, 2324 West Main Street, Fort Wayne. Arrangements by D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Road, Fort Wayne.
