On February 18, 1952, John and Ada Williams welcomed their 4th child and a second son, Tasco Williams, to the world in Indianapolis, IN. Tasco was a rambunctious little boy who loved running behind his older brother John (Johnnie) while protecting his sisters Ida and Joanetta. Eventually, their father, John, moved them to Fort Wayne, IN, in 1969.
Tasco nurtured his love for track and field at Northside High School, honing his talents into a track scholarship at Vincennes University. He completed two years before taking a full-time position at Dana Corporation to support his family, which would grow over the next decade.
Tasco was a pillar in the Fort Wayne sports community. Coaching many in track and field, football, and basketball, with teams such as Summit City Track Team,Independence Track Team, McCormick Park Redskins of the Metropolitan Football League, the Jets of the Police Athletic League. He also coached Lady LegitAAU team, the Family AAU team, several teams within the Police Athletic League, and the Puma girl’s basketball Leagues. Tasco became a household name, mentor, and an additional father figure to many around the Fort Wayne community.
In 2001, Tasco retired from Dana after 30 years of service. This allowed him to redirect his energy back to his love of working with youth and sports by joining the staff at his beloved Snider High School as an Instructional Assistant (ISS Teacher), Track, Chess coach and managed the time clock for many Panther events . If you were at any Snider High School Sporting events, you were guaranteed to see Coach Tasco! He spent the next 20 years traveling, coaching, and supporting his family and friends. One may have run across his path as he ran recreational games and served as security at McMillian Sports Academy during the summer months. Or perhaps being greeted by his over-the-top personality as a Walmart greeter on Lima Rd. Nothing would slow Tasco down before life-saving heart surgery and LVAD placement in August 2021. When some counted him out, Tasco continued to beat the odds being his usual feisty yet supportive and comedic self until he transitioned on April 27, 2023.
Tasco was preceded in death by his father, John W. Williams, mother, Mayme J. Williams, birth mother, Ada L.Williams, and step-sister, Bonnie. To cherish his memory, Tasco leaves behind his siblings, John W. Williams, Joan-Etta Williams, Ida Williams, Keith (Shun) Williams and Michael (Nedra) Young; his children, Tasco J, Darlene (Kent), Candace (Francis), Marie, Amber (James), Sparkle, and Brianna; best friend/ex-wife, Dianne Williams; his best friends/brothers, Charles (Donna) Adams, and Robert (Yvonne) Warnsley; twenty grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,
