Therese "Terry" Smith, 86, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Terry was born in Wabash, Indiana to the late Nathan and Florence (Brady) Halderman on May 19, 1937. Terry pursued being a nun, worked at the telephone company, and was a grade school teacher before answering her call as a loving wife, mother, and homemaker. Her greatest joy was her family, especially her two sons, and she loved making homemade treats for all of their visitors, the ingredients coming from the family gardens. She was a member of the Southmoor Singers, a local musical group that entertained many throughout the years. She enjoyed traveling nationally and internationally with her friends and brother, Don. She was an avid reader, and according to her family–made the world’s best Coconut Cream Pie. She enjoyed the company of her many special friends and spending time with her extended family who she welcomed into her world with an open heart and open arms. Terry is survived by her sons, William "Bill" A. (Tammie) Smith and Robert "Bob" N. (Kristina) Smith; and grandchildren, Will, Jack, Owen, Gabby, and Beckett Smith. She was also preceded in her passing by her beloved husband, Wilbur A. Smith; and siblings, Don and David Halderman. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46809, with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Burial to follow the service at Oaklawn Cemetery. Preferred memorials may be made to the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission.
