

Dr. Thomas L. Winans, 79, of Jimmerson Lake, Angola, formerly of Fort Wayne, passed away Thursday, May 28 2015 at Parkview Regional Medical Center. He was born November 28, 1935 in Fort Wayne to the late Clyde S. and Merrie J. (Smith) Winans. He was a graduate of South Side High School and Indiana University School of Dentistry. He owned and operated his general dentistry practice in Diplomat Plaza for 30 years, retiring in 1991. He also was an associate faculty member of the dental hygiene program at IPFW and was a member of the 122nd Tactical Fighter Wing of the Indiana Air National Guard, retiring as a colonel after 30 years. He was a member of the ADA, IDA, IKDDS, volunteered at Matthew 25 for 10 years, served as Dentist for the 122nd Tactical Hospital in Fort Wayne, as well as serving as assistant to the Tactical Air Command/Surgeon General of Dentistry for the National Guard Bureau for 2 years. He was a 22 year member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, serving as Secretary for 18 years and served as trustee at Peace Lutheran Church, Fremont, IN. He loved to fish and was an avid I. U. Fan. Surviving are his wife, Gloria J. Winans of Jimmerson Lake, Angola; daughter, Sheli (Rick) Taulbee of Fort Wayne; son, Mark (Sheryl) Winans of Germantown, Maryland; sisters, Nancy (Gene) Eicher and Bonnie (David) Baumgartner, both of New Haven; six grandchildren, Karen (Jon) Rosser of Indianapolis, Kevin T. Taulbee of Fort Wayne, Jacob Winans, Caitlin Winans, Sam Winans, and Thomas Winans, all of Germantown, Maryland; two great grandchildren, Jack and Reed Rosser, both of Indianapolis; and many adored nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca J. Winans. Funeral service will be Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 6750 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46804. Visitation will be on Monday, June 1, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
