VonDella “Vonnie” Falls was called home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 9, 2025 after fighting like the warrior she was against cancer for two years. She was born to Frank Hicks and Sondra Loson (née Taylor) on February 10,1954, in Lompoc, California. Vonnie was raised in Fort Wayne and graduated from South Side High School. After high school, she went on to earn her Nursing degree from Ball State University. Vonnie served as a nurse for over 40 years, still holding her nursing license to this day. She never considered herself retired and was always ready and willing to take care of others, saying “once I beat this, I’m going back to work!”. There is not a person on this earth that Vonnie would not try to help. She always saw the very best in people and had the most forgiving heart. Vonnie was truly the hostess with the most and found joy in watching others' happiness. She was the most selfless person we knew and will be missed beyond measure by all who were lucky enough to know and be loved by her.
Vonnie is survived by her husband of 32 years, Thomas Falls Jr.; her loving daughter and caretaker, Lesley (Don) Woenker; adoring son, Nicholas (Sharon) Varvares; stepsons, Tony (Heather) and Shawn (Melissa) Falls. There was nothing Vonnie loved more than her grandchildren, the best part of her life, Naomi Woenker, John and Leon Varvares, and Mallory, Hudson and Cora Falls. Also surviving are her siblings, Mitchell Hicks, Ronda (Jeff) Walters and Tony (Renee) Hicks; and her uncle and best friend, Mike and Patti Lou Taylor. She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Sondra and Joseph Loson; her father Frank Hicks; and her beloved dogs, Angel, Buddy, Bella and Max.
Funeral service will be 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at D.O. McComb and Sons, Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also held from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, Monday, July 14, 2025, at the funeral home. Burial at Highland Park Cemetery.
