William R. Elkins Sr. passed away Thursday, November 21, 2024 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was a son to the late Jesse E. Elkins of Peoria, Illinois, and Adalyne M. (Uhrick) Elkins of Fort Wayne. William spent many years in Tarpon Springs, Florida, but eventually came back to Indiana to be closer to family.
He will forever be remembered for his handmade fishing poles, THE FROG STICK, and his expertise in candy making where he earned the name “CANDYMAN”. William enjoyed sharing his candy with everyone, but especially enjoyed sharing with the people that took care of him at doctors’ offices and hospitals.
William will be greatly missed by his son, William (Brenda) Elkins II (and family), of Fort Wayne IN; daughter, Stacy (David) Cordel (and family), of New Haven, IN; all of his grandchildren and great- grandchildren; sisters, Ruth (Butch) Miller (and family) of Hicksville ,OH, Laneta Williams (and family) of Sherwood, OH and Eva Elkins (and family) of Antwerp, OH. He will be missed by many cousins, several nieces and nephews, and all the great friends and neighbors he had from his time in Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marilyn Kay (Sutton) Elkins; daughter, Debra Kay Hickerson; brothers, Jesse Edward Elkins, Norman L. Elkins, Roy E. Elkins and Bryce B. Elkins; and sister, Mary Adalyne McCoy.
