

William Hayes Montgomery, 66, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, after a short battle with lung cancer. William was born on January 28, 1949 to Lawrence and Mary Montgomery. William accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in the Methodist faith. He graduated from Anderson High School and attended Indiana State University. He served in Vietnam with the U.S. Army's Military Police and was honorably discharged in 1971. On September 20, 1980 he was united in marriage to Veronica Elaine Ford. William was a Claims Representative with Social Security Administration and retired in 2004 after 30 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, and was a die-hard New York Yankees fan. William is survived by his wife of 35 years, Veronica; daughter, LaChelle (Jerome) Adkins, Stockbridge, GA; sisters, Julia Fort and Patricia Montgomery, Indianapolis, IN; Brother, Kevin (Mallory) Montgomery, St. Petersburg, FL; Grandchildren-Nathan Joel Cortez, Brenndon (Yvonne) Adkins, Los Angeles, CA, Taylor, Jonathan, Alexandria, Mackenzie, Victoria, Elisabeth, Olivia, Danielle, Jeremiah, Joshua, Jordan, Faith, and Hope Adkins, all of Stockbridge, GA; great-grandchild, Jerome Brenndon Adkins, Jr.; Special Cousin Herbert (Sharon) Montgomery; A host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Montgomery; and son, Timothy R. Montgomery.
