He visited Norway on three occasions to connect with distant family. He was an avid fan of Texas Rangers baseball. Al had a deep love for all kinds of music, particularly classical and sacred music. He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Charlotte Threadgill and his brother Roger Dahl.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy M. Dahl, daughters Narnie McCahan and husband David, Louisa Dahl-Tillson and husband Robert, sons Martin and wife Lynda, Alan and wife Natalia, grandchildren, Colby McCahan, Cooper and Grace Tillson and Lila Dahl-Ruiz. Al’s last two months were spent under the loving care of his wife and four devoted children in the home he built with his own hands. The family is grateful they were able to fill his heart and mind with their deep love and admiration. He was a man of integrity, intelligence, compassion, generosity, and humility. Despite the depth of his character, Al undervalued his worthiness throughout his life. In the end he came to understand what an exceptional man his family, students and friends knew him to be.
