Bettye Jo Stewart

Bettye Jo Stewart was born Sunday, August 20, 1939 to the parentage of Mr. and Mrs. Adolphus Person and Myrtle Hardeman in caldwell Texas. At an early age, she became a disciple of Christ at Seven Star Missionary Baptist Church led by the late Edgar Butler.

Bettye graduated from Freeman High School in May 1957. On Saturday, July 19, 1958 she united in holy matrimony to Vernell Stewart. Mr. and Mrs. Vernell Stewart became the proud parents of five children; three boys Vernell Jr., Vincent Darryl and Van Hugh, and two girls Beryl Lynne and Bonnie Kay.

The family moved to Fort Worth, TX July, 1974. She became a member of New Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Fort Worth, TX under the pastorate of the late Rev. Tom Franklin and then became a member of Berea Baptist Church, under the pastorate of the late Rev. Hoise Bell.

Bettye was employed and retired after 18 years as a salesperson for J.C. Penney. She had a passion for helping people, cooking, baking, traveling, playing computer games and taking care of her family. She truly loved her family and loved being around family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Adolphus and Myrtle Person, her brothers Herbert Person, Hardy Person, Robert Person, Evelyn Washington, Annie Beard, husband Vernell Stewart and son Vincent Darryl.

She leaves to cherish her memory her sons Vernell Stewart Jr. (Betty), Van Stewart (Tomalyn), daughters Beryl Stewart (CJ), Bonnie Stewart Alexander, grandchildren Pamela Stewart, Tanisha Stewart Fulton, Tiana Stewart, Tamara Stewart, Van Stewart Jr. and Candace Jones. Great-grandchildren, Serenity Slaton, Cataya Jones, Caleb Jones and Caiden Jones, along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and sisters Nancy Person and Lee Anner Thompson.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Allen Kelly and staff, Access Home Health, nurse Nancy Thompson, physical therapist Breanna Lopez and St. Gabriel's Hospice and Palliative Care Staff.

Serving as pallbearers are Walter Person, Barry Washington, Caster Washington, Willie Wade, Charles Lewis and Jason Jhagroo.
