In his youth, Bobby’s mother moved the family to Fort Worth, where he graduated from Paschal High School, Arlington State College (now the University of Texas Arlington), and earned a Master’s Degree in Mathematics from Texas Christian University. He taught math for the Fort Worth Independent School District at Forest Oak Middle School and computer math at O.D. Wyatt High School. He worked summers at Piggly Wiggly to help make ends meet, allowing his wife, Linda, to stay home with their three boys. Later, he transitioned to the corporate world, working in management for General Dynamics and CSC in Fort Worth before retiring.
Bobby was known for his kindness and gentle humor. He devoted his life to his family and lived by his Christian faith. Always a teacher at heart, Bobby coached his sons’ baseball and basketball teams and encouraged his sons’ love of books and learning by turning them loose at the library. He also helped coach his grandchildren’s basketball, soccer, and flag football teams. Bobby loved reading and exploring the great outdoors, and he was an avid hiker, spending countless days in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado with his beloved wife, Linda. Most of all, he deeply cherished his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bobby was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Mae; father, Robert; his sisters, Dorothy (Dot), Pat, Gail, and Brenda; his brother, Jimmy; and his great-grandson, Jackson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Linda; his three sons Robert (wife Bonnie), Stephen (wife Michelle), and David (wife Cyndi); his grandchildren, Michael, Ericca, Ransom, Ryan, Mira, Paige, Chris, Hayden, Ravyn, and Luke, and eight great-grandchildren.
Bobby will be laid to rest at Laurel Land Cemetery, 7100 Crowley Road, Fort Worth, Texas. The service will be held Saturday, June 21, in the Chapel of Chimes. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., immediately followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. and the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Bobby’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association at https://www.alz.org/ or The Jackson Project at https://thejacksonproject.org/.
