Catherine Godwin

A Visitation for Catherine will be held Thursday, April 17, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel, 7301 East Lancaster Ave, Fort Worth, Texas 76112, with a Celebration of Life on Friday, April 18, 2025 at 10:30 AM, with the Pastor James Worthy of City of Refuge Bible Church, officiating. Graveside Service will be held at 2:30 PM at DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, Texas 75211.

Catherine Godwin was born in Warsaw, North Carolina to Winifred and Sadie Carlton on June 7, 1939. She went to school at Douglas High School, North Carolina. She married James Godwin on April 7, 1958 in Duplin County, North Carolina.

Catherine, a devoted mother and cherished friend, passed away peacefully. Known for her warm and generous spirit, Catherine enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and took great pleasure in shopping at dollar stores, malls, and markets. Her kitchen was always open, and she delighted in hosting gatherings.

Catherine's outgoing nature meant she never met a stranger. She loved engaging with people and could often be found striking up conversations and making new friends wherever she went. She stayed informed about the world by watching the news and reading the paper daily. A woman of deep faith, Catherine held a special place in her heart for all people. Her kindness and compassion left a lasting impact on everyone she met.

Catherine is preceded in death by her beloved husband, James I Godwin, and her son Michael Godwin.

Catherine is survived by her sons Kenneth, Reggie (wife Dessa), Roger (wife Tamanda), and Shawn (wife Angie); brothers James Lee Carlton and Thurman Carlton; sisters Bessie Branch, Alicia Ross, Margaret Burwell, and Denise Carlton; 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

The family of Catherine wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all the family and friends who have been kind and generous with their support.

Catherine will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
