

Wayne was born in Dallas to parents Georgia and Bernice Burnett. Went to several schools in Denton, and Argyle, but graduated from Grapevine High in 1960. That is where he met his wife of 57 years Judith Elaine Herndon. He received a draft notice for the Army but chose to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. He served during the Vietnam War. After serving in the Marines he came home, enrolled at the University of Arlington in 1963, later transferred to North Texas State College now University of North Texas. He graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Education in 1967. During that time, he married Judith Herndon. He planned to become a teacher but was offered a job at Bell Helicopters Textron in which he worked for 38 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and served many years in his church, Davis Memorial United Methodist. He had many passions, but his love was reading, and talking about history, especially World War II. Wayne never met a stranger. He made friends wherever he went.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Georgia Bell Cross (Cecil Ray Cross, his adopted dad) and Bernice Barnett. He is survived by wife Judith Cross, daughter Patricia and husband Gary Lee, grandson Michael and wife Nichole Ritchie, his sister's Rita Kay Covington, Jo Faith Barnett, Lynn Koppner, Judy Horton, Aunt Jeannie Frank, Uncle Howard Frank, Aunt Mildred Canady, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
