Drew Allen Armentrout, affectionately known as “Legenbass,” was born on November 11, 1950, in South Bend, Indiana, and passed away in Fort Worth, Texas on January 4th, 2026, surrounded by family.
Drew proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, dedicating over two decades of honorable service from 1972 to 1993 and retiring with the rank of Major. Throughout his distinguished military career, Drew participated in numerous classified missions and accumulated hundreds of flight hours during the Vietnam War, serving as a navigator. He was a highly sought-after member of flight crews due to his meticulous planning, exceptional attention to detail, and unwavering commitment to mission success. His professionalism, precision, and calm leadership earned the respect and trust of all who served alongside him.
While his military service took him to many places, Texas ultimately became his true home. Drew spent more than 30 years in Fort Worth, where he built deep roots, lasting friendships, and a life centered on faith, service, and community.
Drew found his true partner in life when he met Linda Charron. Together they shared 31 years of steadfast companionship. Though they never married, their relationship stood as a powerful example of love, loyalty, and enduring commitment to all who knew them. Drew became not only a devoted life partner, but also a father figure within Linda’s family, earning deep respect as a guiding presence and beloved patriarch.
Drew was preceded in death by his father, August M. Armentrout; his mother, Mildred T. Armentrout; his grandfather, Charles Armentrout; his brother-in-law James Hanks Jr., his nephew, Jimmy Hanks; his sister-in-law, Belinda (Tennison) Armentrout; and his honorary son-in-law, Brad Charron.
He is survived by his son, Joshua Armentrout (Abby); his beloved grandchildren, Hayden and McKenzie Armentrout; his life partner, Linda Charron; and her children, Michael Charron, Melissa Olson, and David Charron; along with additional grandchildren, Katlyne, Nikki, David W, and Madison. He is also survived by his sister, Beverly (Armentrout) Hanks; brother, August Gary Armentrout; nieces Paula Cochran, Rachel Szikszai, Jullie Stucker (Carter), and Lisa Holt, nephew Jason Hanks (Tracy), and four great-nephews, three great-nieces, and three great-great nieces.
Drew was defined by his deep love of God, his unwavering commitment to excellence in all his endeavors, and his willingness to give—even to the point of giving the shirt off his back—if it meant helping someone in need. He lived his faith through action, generosity, and service to others.
An active and devoted member of the Knights of Columbus, Drew took great pride in community involvement and in the brotherhood he shared with his fellow Knights. His integrity, humility, and servant’s heart left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Drew will be remembered as a faithful servant of God, a devoted father and grandfather, a proud patriot, and a man whose life was guided by honor, discipline, and love.
