

Earl W. Thompson died March 10, 2022 at age 89. He was born May 25, 1932 in Weinert, Texas to Rev. E. B. “Jack” Thompson and his wife Ruby. Earl grew up in various West Texas towns, graduating high school in Roby, Texas. He attended McMurry College in Abilene shortly, prior to entering the US Air Force in 1951.
Earl spent 21 years in the service, retiring from the Army as a chief warrant officer in 1972 with the Bronze Star from Vietnam, and other decorations and commendations. Earl’s second career as an insurance auditor in West Texas lasted 20 years. He then spent six years authoring a 600+ page book of the Civil War and another six years writing a 600+ page book of the Second World War.
Earl had a happy sixteen year marriage with Carole Climer Thompson, who died June 10, 2018 breaking Earl’s heart. He was also preceded in death by his parents, son Brent Thompson, first wife Doris V. Thompson, sister Wanda Woolen, and sister Jean Hedges.
Earl Thompson is survived by his son Mark (Thao) of Rancho Cordova, CA, daughter Cynthia Nesmith (Diedrich) of Lubbock, TX, daughter Linda Braddock (Daniel) of Newark, TX, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Earl accepted Christ as his Savior at age seven, and has been a member of Methodist, Baptist, and some non-denominational churches during his life; and trusted in Christ for eternal salvation.
A visitation for Earl will be held Thursday, March 31, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Shannon Rufe Snow Drive Funeral Chapel, 6001 Rufe Snow Drive, Fort Worth, TX 76148. A graveside service will occur Friday, April 1, 2022 from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM at DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211.
