

Earnest Daniel Thompson was born on January 15, 1935, the youngest of 12 children, in West Columbia, Texas of Brazoria County to the parentage of Elliott Thompson and Georgia Ann Overton. His family affectionately nicknamed him “Smitty". He attended the Historic Charlie Brown High School class of 1953 where he excelled as quarterback and earned a football scholarship to Prairie View A&M College. Upon entering college in 1953, he majored in Industrial Education, was an ROTC Honor Guard, played his favorite sport, football and met the love of his life, Christine George. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 1957 and began his life long career in auto mechanics in the United States Army. In 1969 he married Christine and they relocated to Fort Worth, TX settling in the tightly knitted community of Lake Como. To their union they were blessed with three children, Earnest, Louise, and Barbara. After retiring from the military in 1979 after 20 years, Sergeant Thompson enjoyed being a grandfather and continued his service to the country as an Army National Guard until his retirement in 1989. Upon his final retirement, he established Industrial Hobbies Mechanics Shop and enjoyed being your friendly neighborhood auto mechanic. He was a member of the Fort Worth Hawks Motorcycle Club in which he served as President and enjoyed their many activities. He professed his faith in the Lord at an early age and attended Stranger’s Rest Baptist Church under the pastoral of R.W. West where he remained a faithful member until his health failed. Earnest Daniel Thompson entered into eternal rest on Thursday, September 30, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents Elliott and Georgia Overton-Thompson; 10 brothers and 1 sister; daughter Barbara Martin, and Grandson Elliott Martin. He leaves to cherish his precious memories, wife Christine Thompson; son Earnest Carroll; daughter Louise Nwosu; and bonus grand-daughter Ericka Williams and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
