Erik was born February 27th, 1977. He was the second of 4 brothers. Growing up Erik was always super smart and inventive as he helped create some of our favorite childhood games like the throwing game with rubber wrestlers. Erik took Karate when he was younger and was an avid swimmer in his youth. We grew up watching cheesy TV shows like “Outlaws”, “The A-Team”, and “The Incredible Hulk” and from an early age Erik became a movie and music buff. In high school, he participated in many academic events and represented his school well.
As an adult, Erik was known to be able to quote almost any movie or TV show. He really loved fantasy and superhero stories. His other main hobby was his love of cooking. He would love trying new recipes and made the best deep fried turkey and scrambled eggs. He was generous to his family and always gave everything he had to his brothers and nephews. He was a gentle soul and all who met him instantly liked him as he was the most easy going person.
His most beloved companion in life was his beautiful black Labrador Eva. She was by his side for almost 15 years as he rescued her as a puppy. He loved every minute he spent with her and when she crossed the Rainbow Bridge in 2021, he always knew he’d see her again.
Erik grew up Catholic and at times questioned his faith but in the last year of his life he reconnected with God and would often quote the Bible. He loved everyone and his friends and family loved him.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Johanna “Grammy” Haug; his mother, Christine McCartney; and his beloved dog, Eva.
He is survived by his brother, Mark (47) his wife, Samantha and sons, Kyle and Jared; his brother, Alan (44) his wife, Ashley and son, Axton; and his brother, Brian (44) his wife, Stephanie and sons, Lucas and Logan.
“Today is a new day” Matthew 6:34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is it’s own trouble”.
In lieu of flowers please send any donations in Erik’s name to any mental health charities of your choice.
