Gloria Myers Spear passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at the age of 94 in Burleson, Texas. She never met a stranger, and her smile, compassion and life of the party attitude will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Gloria was born to Fred and Emma Myers on January 22, 1928, in Enid, Oklahoma. After graduating from Hayward High School, she met and married Joseph Spear, Jr. on March 18, 1946. They had four children, Stephen, Susan, David and Mark. They attended Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Houston, where she was involved in the quilting group, the Altar Society and other parish and school organizations. Gloria and Joe remained married until his death in 1988.
Gloria loved music, dancing, gardening, jewelry, shoes and sewing but found her real joy in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She took her role very seriously, often quoting Genesis 1:28, and she was always there when needed to offer support, care and of course, babysitting.
In 2007, Gloria moved to Alvin, Texas to be closer to her son, David, and his family. Her time there was filled with family gatherings, her plants, her precious dog, Sadie, and new friends. She attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Requiring additional care in 2017, she moved to Heritage Place Assisted Living in Burleson, Texas where she was an ambassador, welcoming new residents, and was very involved in the kazoo band, senior Olympics and all the daily activities. Gloria attended St. Ann Catholic Church.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Emma Myers, her loving husband, Joseph Spear, Jr, her beloved daughter, Susan Rigby, and her brother Jerry Myers. She is survived by her remaining 3 children and spouses, Stephen and Linden Spear, David and Judy Spear, and Mark and Sue Spear; her grandchildren and spouses, Bryn and Stephen Merrill, David and Anabella Schneider, Kelly and Jeffrey Norfolk, Charles and Holly Spear, Traci and Chris Peters, Anthony and Laura Spear and Ashley and Brian Favia; 15 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren; her sister and husband, Cheryle and Richard Pinnell, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Gloria will be deeply missed, always treasured and never forgotten.
A graveside service will be held on August 20, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Forest Park Cemetery Westheimer, 12800 Westheimer, Houston, Texas 77077, where her ashes will be interred next to her husband, Joe. If desired, friends may make memorial donations to the American Cancer Society or the charity of their choice. The family is grateful for the love and support shown to Gloria.
