

Gordon Sturges Swift Jr. was welcomed into heaven by his Lord and Savior on Friday, Feb. 12, 2016. Service: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Southcliff Baptist Church, 4100 SW Loop 820, Fort Worth 76109. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth immediately following the service. Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, gifts to the American Heart Association can be made in Gordon's honor at www.heart.org. Gordon was born on July 22, 1934, to Gordon Swift Sr. and Oma Jones Swift in Tarrant County. He attended the Lake Worth School system as a student from 1940 to 1951. From 1972 to 1975 he served as president of the board of trustees. Gordon attended TCU from '51 through '58. He then received his civil engineering license from the state of Texas, starting his career with the city of Fort Worth Public Works Department working his way to chief design engineer before going into private practice for over 48 years. Gordon S. Swift, president and owner of Gordon S Swift Consulting Engineer, Inc., joined forces with Barron-Stark Consulting Engineers, LP, and formed the new entity known as Barron, Stark & Swift Consulting Engineers, LP. Gordon was an engineering powerhouse in the DFW area for more than 45 years; he brought extensive knowledge and experience to civil engineering and land surveying. He helped clientele with some 2,500-plus engineering projects throughout Texas, California, Colorado, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Alaska. The loves of his life were his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and clients. He devoted time to leading song services with his Sunday school class. Gordon enjoyed hunting and relaxing on his ranch, flying his plane and traveling to his two favorite places, Africa and Alaska. He spent many hours on his plan to invent a gravity wheel. The family graciously extends a heartfelt thank-you to the Covenant Hospice Group for their unwavering and diligent care during the end of Gordon's life. He has left behind his memory and legacy with his loving wife of 29 years, Doris; children, Cynthia Scoggin, Brit and Karen Swift, Hershel and Tammy Dunagan, Teresa and Dale Lee; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and dear friends.
