

Helen Diane Samuel was born on June 15, 1942, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Moses Holloway and Annie Louise Laster. She spent her early years in the Stop Six neighborhood of Fort Worth, where she attended grade school. Helen confessed a belief in Christ at an early age and united with the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Stop Six. Helen later moved to Redwood City, California, with her mother, continuing her education at Sequoia High School, from which she graduated in 1961. Helen went on to earn a nursing certification, dedicating her life to caring for others.
In 1964, Helen married Lawrence Samuel, Sr. in Palo Alto, California, and together they welcomed three sons: Lawrence Jr., Mark Anthony, and Nicholas. Helen found joy in many aspects of life. She loved gardening, being in nature, traveling, fine dining, completing crossword puzzles, and sharing hearty laughter with her family and friends. Helen’s deep faith and devotion to her family were central to her life, and she cherished bringing her loved ones together, especially during the holidays.
Mrs. Helen Samuel, age 82 passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.
Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lawrence Samuel, Sr.; her father, Moses Holloway; her mother, Annie Louise Jackson; and her youngest son, Nicholas Samuel.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength and cherished memories with those who survive her: her sons, Lawrence Samuel, Jr. (wife Misty) and Mark Anthony Samuel (wife Jee); her devoted daughter-in-law, Ruth “Liz” Sadberry; her dear lifelong friend, Gloria Cormier; her grandchildren, Crystal Sadberry, Nicole Samuel, Nicholas Samuel, Jr., Sharbrenae Garrett, Lyrri Samuel, Tenilya Samuel, Nakya Samuel, and Emma Samuel; and her great-grandchildren, Na’arrah Samuel, Kei’Jzion Sloan, and King-Nathanael Samuel.
Helen is also remembered fondly by her aunts, Marcella Traywicks, Kathy Laster, Linda Bruner, Karen Smith, Mary Helen Bagby, and Diana Laster; her uncle, Charles Laster; and numerous other relatives, including Rayvonne Price, Terrance Price, Lon Price, Barron Roney, Eric Booker, Kenneth Roney, Ruby Gentry, Diona Roney, Omega Roney, Ruthie Mae Johnson, Mary Bacy, Samuel Bacy, Jr., Shellette Flournoy, and Mildred Scott.
Helen’s strength, laughter, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service for Helen will be held Friday, August 23, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Gregory W. Spencer Funeral Directors, 4000 Miller Ave, Fort Worth, Texas 76119.
