

Iva Lou Leverette Buchanan, born Sunday October 7th, 1922, in Sherman, Texas passed away on Sunday, April 3rd. Her soul and spirit was finally set free from her physical body around 10:45am. She lived on this earth 34,147 days or 93 years, 5 months and 27 days and was, in her own words, “a tough old bird”.
She was preceded by her husband Bill and her daughter Judy Diane. Iva Lou was the next to the youngest child of Walter and Della Leverette. Iva Lou had many brothers and sisters who have all preceded her passing.
She leaves behind her son, James Ray Buchanan of Denison TX, a daughter, Janet Elizabeth Epley of North Richland Hills TX and another son, William Marion Buchanan of Chattanooga TN along with her grandchildren Dee Anne Eldardiri, Gwen Fonarow, Lea Cochrane, Sarah Hallmark and Twyla Stewart and her great grandchildren, Mikayla Cochrane, Nicholas Cochrane, Madelynn Hallmark, Avery Hallmark, Rose Eldardiri, Tessa Fonarow, and Josie Fonarow. In addition to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Iva Lou leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Iva Lou married Bill in 1941 and lived in Denison TX until moving to Chattanooga TN in 1969. They returned to make their home again in Denison in 1990 and lived there together until 2000 and the passing of her husband. Iva Lou stayed in Denison with her son, James until 2010 when her health began to fail. She moved to North Richland Hills and stayed with her daughter, Janet under her full time care until her passing last Sunday morning.
The most important thing in Iva Lou’s life was her family, both immediate and extended. As the last survivor of a dozen siblings she witnessed the passing of her parents and all of her siblings over the years along with her daughter, Judy Diane in 1952 of polio.
Iva Lou was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist church in Denison, Brainerd Baptist Church in Chattanooga and Parkside Baptist in Denison upon her return to Texas.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 7 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with a Funeral Service at Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Chapel at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Denison, Texas at 2:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Water Is Basic, Alzheimers Association or the charity of your choice.
