Janice Kay Buening

Kay, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 22, 2021. She was born in Del Rio, Texas the third of four daughters born to Jack and Myrtle Grimes. She was raised in Springtown, Texas on a dairy farm until the age of 12, but graduated high school in Wichita Kansas. The four sisters were known as the Grimes Girls and they built a large family network of support and love which has remained very close knit to this day. Kay was married briefly to Billy John Hargrave and gave birth to a son Jeffrey Ross, who was later adopted by second husband, Joseph Zielinski with whom she had 2 daughters, Joni Renee and Julie Dawn.

In 1980, Kay married Paul Buening. She became a member of St. Matthew Cumberland Presbyterian Church (now Pathway). Beginning in 1978, she served as a Sunday School Teacher, member of various teams, Session Clerk, Assistant Treasurer, Trustee, and a member of the bereavement Ministry. This period of her life was filled with many special friends who remained very close through the years. She always felt a very special connection to Pastor Rick Owen and felt a strong sense of pride in how the church grew and changed so many lives for the better.

She dearly loved her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were beaming lights in her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Jeanie Sandlin, Jo Cowart and Judie Miller. She is survived be her children Jeff Zielinski and wife, Rebecca, her daughter Joni Morris and husband Mitch, her daughter Julie Maduzia and her stepson Paul Buening Jr. and wife Karen, plus her 11 grandchildren Aaron, Shanda, Molly, Joey, Alisha, Sarah, Kayce, JJ, Jonathan, Trey and Lindsey. She also enjoyed 7 great grandchildren Eli, Arlo, Ashlin, RJ, Trip, Cali, and Haylee.
