It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mrs. Karen Beth Hottel (Tolliver). Born December 1st, 1946, in Washington, D.C. Karen joined Heavenly Father on the 25th of May, 2026, in Garland, Texas, leaving a void that can never be filled. With Karen's departure, we remember a life lived with immense love, pillars of belief and a constant sense of caring.
Karen was predeceased by her father and mother, Harry and Reba Tolliver, as well as many great friends along her life’s journey.
She is survived by her three sons: Scott Hottel, Jeff Hottel, and Alex Hottel, as well as her brother, David Tolliver, and sister, Susan Richer (Tolliver). Further, survived by the father of her sons, Nelson Hottel and wife Rita Hottel (Keefer).
She was also a cherished grandmother to three wonderful grandchildren: Quinn, Emerson and Merritt. Karen also shared a life-long bond with Virginia Hottel since the age of 9, who stood by her through every chapter of life.
Karen held a deep affection for spending time with her grandchildren and immersing herself in her faith. A beautiful soul who cared deeply about kindness and believed in God, Karen was most pleased when she saw others spreading love and care.
Karen’s preference for the color purple was indicative of her rich, royal character - loving, caring and perhaps a bit queen-ly with her virtues and values she lived her life by. The greatest lesson she shared with us is the importance of kindness to one another. Karen was a staunch supporter of respect and etiquette, which comically conflicted at rare times with her love of a great margarita.
Though Karen’s life had many societal accomplishments and accolades as she navigated this world, the roles she cherished most were those of a mother and later as grandmother. Her monumental sacrifices for those she loved were readily apparent, whether in the moment or perceived in post.
Today, we let go of a remarkable woman, a loving mother, a doting grandmother, and a kind soul. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the love, joy, and kindness that were the essences of Karen’s being. She leaves us with a legacy to strive to do better and to be kind to others.
Pallbearers will be Scott Hottel, Jeff Hottel, Alex Hottel, Zachary Wezenberg, Kristian Stocksen, and Robert Flowers.
