

Karold was born August 6, 1934, in Shawnee, OK, to Lyle Ray and Dama Arnold Troxell. She attended Paschal High School in and graduated from Brantley Draughon Business College in Fort Worth in 1952. She held many full charge bookkeeping positions before finding her true career as a pet groomer. She opened La Groome Pet Salon in North Richland Hills in 1971. In addition to grooming pets for over 20 years she also traveled and competed in and won many grooming competitions throughout the United States.
It was at Pascal High School where Karold met the love of her life, James Frederick Cato (Jim). Karold was a high school band majorette. Jim met Karold in the school cafeteria. Karold convinced Jim to go with her friend on a double date. The next morning after the friend left for Costa Rico, Jim and Karold talked for over three hours. Jim and Karold finally married on January 25, 1952.
Karold accompanied Jim on his military service in Panama. During their time in Panama they were blessed with their only child, a son, James F. Cato, II.
After returning from Panama, Karold worked as a bookkeeper in Bryan, TX, while Jim attended Texas A&M University. Upon graduation, the couple moved to various cities where Jim was an engineer, eventually settling in North Richland Hills.
Karold was strong woman who struggled through much adversity later in life but always managed to maintain her faith in God and sense of humor. Karold lost her only child, Jimmie, in April, 1973, in a train accident. She survived lung cancer. She suffered a stroke in 1995. She suffered COPD and other chronic respiratory illness prior to her death.
Karold was preceded in death by her grandparents, her parents, her son, and various aunts and uncles.
