After moving to Fort Worth, she graduated from Paschal High School. Kay dedicated 43 years of service to Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator, where she occasionally took calls from nieces and nephews late at night and even once from Elvis Presley. Once retired, Kay enjoyed travelling, spending time with her family, and perfecting her skills at contract, a family card game.
Kay was an avid reader and was head of the family book club. She enjoyed needle point and was excited to make a baby blanket for all of her great nieces and nephews as a baby present. An enthusiastic Cowboys, Rangers and golf fan, she could tell you the stats of all the games (just don’t ask her about the losses!).
She loved classic TV, investigative crime shows and the West Wing. Kay was a skilled and loyal fan of Jeopardy, The Price is Right, and Wheel of Fortune and rarely missed an episode.
Although Kay never married, she found her greatest joy in being “Aunt Kay” to 23 nieces and nephews, 66 great nieces and nephews, and 79 and great-great nieces and nephews.
She could remember each name and each birthdate! Kay looked forward to family gatherings and also her scheduled weekly calls from out-of-town family. Kay’s devotion to her Catholic faith, unwavering love for all, and resilience have created memories which will forever be cherished by her family.
Kay is preceded in death by her parents, Ward and Alice, brothers, Patrick, Jack and Michael, and sisters Marilyn and Jill. She is survived by her eldest sister and best friend, Margaret Nevius. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Heart to Heart Hospice and Hand in Home for assisting her nieces in caring for Kay over the last few weeks. The family will hold a private funeral service at a future date.
