It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Nguyễn Kim Lan. She was a devoted wife, mother, friend, coworker, aunt, godmother, and a devout Catholic member of the church. She was the foundation for her family, and her life was marked by a deep commitment to serving others. She dedicated countless hours to volunteering at the church, participating in charitable activities such as being the treasurer, creating flower arrangements, fundraising, prepping and cooking, singing in the choir, and helping those in need.
Kim Lan was born in Vietnam and immigrated to the United States in 1975. She married Nguyễn Peter Hùng and had four children. She loved her family dearly and displayed it through her actions. She was a tremendous example of love and support and a servant of God. As a devout Catholic, she found her spiritual home at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, where she became an integral part of the parish family. She had an open heart and a generous spirit, always ready to lend a helping hand. Her love for God was evident in every aspect of her life. She was known for her dedication and selflessness. Her faith was a source of strength and inspiration to all who knew her.
Her kitchen and the church’s kitchen were always filled with the aromas of traditional Vietnamese dishes, lovingly prepared for family and friends. She took great joy in feeding others, believing that a shared meal was one of the simplest and most profound expressions of love. Her cooking was legendary. She filled everyone’s bellies with her famous fried chicken, cream puffs, bánh bao, bánh giò, bánh cam, bánh kép and egg rolls.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her father Giuse Nguyễn Văn Thành, her mother Maria Trần Thị Tin, her brother Giuse “Robert” Nguyễn Văn Thạnh, and her nephew Giuse Taylor Nguyễn.
Nguyễn Kim Lan is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband: Nguyễn Peter Hùng; her children: Nguyễn Châu Tony, Nguyễn Kim Linda, Nguyễn Hoa Lisa, and Nguyễn Quang Thomas; her siblings: Nguyễn Văn Thước, his wife, children, and grandchildren; Nguyễn Văn Thảnh, his wife, children, and grandchildren; Nguyễn John, his wife, children, and grandchildren; Nguyễn Văn Thanh's wife, children, and grandchildren; Nguyễn Kim Liên and children; Nguyễn Dominic, his wife, and children; and Nguyễn Văn Thái, his wife, and children.
Kim Lan’s legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed. Her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. May she rest in eternal peace, embraced by the love of God she faithfully served.
