Lawrence Melvin (Larry) McGuire, age 85, passed into the arms of Jesus on December 22, 2025. Born on March 22, 1940, he was the eldest and most mischievous child of Melvin Oscar McGuire and Clarissa Ruth Lindeke McGuire.
Larry was born in Washington, D.C. and soon moved to Montana, but he spent the majority of his childhood in Washington State graduating from Olympia High School. There, he developed a life-long love of camping, hiking and the great outdoors. In retirement, Larry and his wife, Claudia, traveled all over the United States in their RV seeing many of our national parks.
Larry proudly served in the Marines before graduating from Cal Poly and building a career as an engineer. Never one to settle for the ordinary, he eventually traded in the corporate life to start his own business doing what he loved most. There wasn’t anything Larry couldn’t build or fix.
Larry was always ready with a joke and truly never met a stranger. If you asked him how he was doing, he’d grin and say, “about average.” In time, his friends lovingly began to call him “Mr. Average,” a nickname that captured his humility and humor.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Clarissa McGuire, and daughter, Tracy Janac (Donnie).
Larry is survived by his best friend and beloved wife, Claudia McGuire; his daughter, Kelly McKee (Mark); stepchildren, Delbert Zeptner (Laurie), Travis Zeptner, and Brenda Zeptner; and grandchildren Kristen Kirk (Jordan), Derek McKee, Daniel Bertrand, Christopher Zeptner, and Connor Zeptner (Casey); great‑grandchildren Addison Kirk, Chandler Kirk, and Tyler Kirk. He is also survived by his sister Janet Treadwell (Bill), brother, Paul McGuire (Jinx) and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends both in the Pacific Northwest and in Texas
Larry ‘s advice, smile, humor, optimism, and love will be missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. In keeping with his wishes, a private family memorial will be held at a later date.
