On August 25th, 2004 a precious baby boy named Leon Kemp JR. entered into the world to his mother Natalie Taylor in Bakersfield, California. Leon was a beacon of joy to all who were blessed to be part of his life. He grew up in Bakersfield, where he attended Wayside Elementary and Jefferson School before moving to Texas in December 2012. He completed his education at Morningside Middle School and graduated from North Crowley High School, leaving a legacy of kindness, respect, and love everywhere he went.
A gentle giant with a heart of gold, Leon was known for his respectful nature, always greeting others with a "yes ma'am" or "yes sir." His politeness and deep respect for his elders were just a few of the many traits that made him truly special. He had a love for life that shone through in everything he did, whether it was playing video games with his brother, cousins, and friends, or trying out new foods—especially if it meant sneaking in some Hot Cheetos, his ultimate snack.
Leon was the kind of person who was always there to lend a helping hand without hesitation. His dedication to his work was unparalleled, always striving to be on time, to finish first, and to enjoy the friendly competitions with his coworkers. His love for his family was unmatched—he adored family gatherings, relishing in the laughter, love, and food shared around the table. Babies held a special place in his heart, and his eyes would light up whenever they were around.
He was his mother’s heart and soul, her pride and joy. There wasn’t a single thing he wouldn’t do for her or his beloved brother. His loyalty to his family and friends was unwavering, and his presence filled every room with warmth and light.
Leon is preceded in death by his Great grandparents Elder Nathan and Lottie Duffey, Great uncle Paul Duffey, grandmother Wanda Kemp, Uncle Larry Kemp, Aunt Tina Kemp, cousin G’yo and his beloved big cousin Halei Brown aka Bugga.
Leon leaves his loved ones on earth to cherish his memories: mother Natalie Taylor, brother Larrell Brown JR., grandmother Brenda Duffey, aunt Lakeysa(GG), uncle Deon SR.(Carmen), and cousins Elias (Ka’sias), Cameron (Juliette), Patrick (Aven &Ma’Kayla), Jessenia, Julyssa (Lza), Ariel, Deon Jr (Breelee)and godsister Ivy’Jae, aunt Fatema(Patrick) and a host of other family and friends including his best friend Keon.
Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we are comforted knowing that Leon lived his life with love, laughter, and a generosity of spirit that will never be forgotten. He leaves behind cherished memories of family potlucks, friendly gaming sessions, and the special moments that made him so uniquely wonderful. His love for us will live on forever. Leon, age 20, passed away far too soon, leaving a void in the hearts of all who knew him.
We will miss his smile, his heart, and his gentle soul—but we will carry him with us always
