Lionel grew up in Southern California and graduated from Santa Monica High School in 1964. He worked as a Letter Carrier and retired from the Arlington Post Office after 35 years of service to the U.S. Postal System.
Lionel is preceded in death by his parents James Aaron and Marjorie Huckabee Dexter Jr.; brother James Aaron Dexter III; sons Lionel Anthony Dexter II and Colby Scott Dexter; and nephew James Patrick Cronan.
He is survived by his daughter Deborah Dexter Elmore and husband, Alan of Gladewater, TX; sister Dixie Poston and husband, Jerald Benton of Arlington, TX; daughter-in-law Crystal Dexter Ortega of Justin, TX; grandson Cody Burris and wife, Magen of Burleson, TX; granddaughter Hanah Burris of College Station, TX; granddaughter Daisy Villa of New York; granddaughter Jovie Dexter of Justin, TX; 3 great-grandchildren Berkeley, Bailey, and Baker Burris of Burleson, TX; numerous cousins from across the country; and many dear friends.
The family would like to thank Community Healthcare of Texas and Arlington Memorial Hospital for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in his final days. Deepest thanks also go to all who continued to visit and support Lionel and family during this time.
