

Lonnie Dale Johnson was born on February 18,1947, in Brownwood, Texas. He passed away on May 29, 2025, at his home in Crowley, Texas. He graduated from Bangs High School in 1965. In 1967, he joined the United States Army and was subsequently deployed to the war in Vietnam. While on active duty, he was awarded the following: the Purple Heart,
US Army Commendation with Valor, National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, and multiple good conduct medals.
Lonnie was the owner and operator of Texas Dirt Contractors, where he was a heavy equipment operator for 35 years. When he wasn’t running Caterpillar loaders, he enjoyed hunting whitetail deer, feeding his Angus cattle, and spending time with his many grandchildren and lifelong friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Cleta Faye Greathouse; father, William Paul Johnson; and brother, Gordon Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Johnson; daughters, Lisa Smith, Deena Holder and husband, James; son, Shane Johnson and wife, Elaine; grandchildren, Maddison Holder, Ronnie Deaver and wife, Gwen, Ryan Deaver, Kallista, Adalynn, and Jaxynn Gilland, Houston and Ledger Johnson; and great grandchildren, Sebastian Deaver, Annalee and Ronnie Deaver III.
