Lorraine was born May 27, 1928. Lovingly known as Mother, Grandmother, Sweetum or Sweetie. A beautiful soul, we were blessed to have in our lives she was an extraordinary woman, A friend, Talented, witty and charming. She had the wonder and innocence of a child, providing laughter for those around her. She loved to learn about people's backgrounds. She was a collector of all things pretty that gave her comfort and security. After her mother, Stella Belle Atkinson, passed, her father Dewey could not care for the girls alone. Lorraine grew up in The Corsicana State Orphans Home with her twin Lorene and older sister Jean. Lorraine also had a baby sister Jodie who lived with an Aunt. She loved harmonizing with her sisters and going on adventures with them. Another favorite, she enjoyed, the peace of sitting on the deck at her son's Lake house relaxing and watching the birds.
Married to David James Wheeler, they worked for Southwestern Bell for 35 years before retiring.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stella Belle Atkinson and Dewey Oliver; her husband, David James Wheeler; her sister's, twin Lorene Menefee also known as Whoppie, and Jodie Renner; loving brother-in-law's, Richard Renner, Colonel Daniel Guyton, Carroll Menefee; and loving nephew, Larry Wayne Samford; as well as, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
She is survived by her only child, D. Michael (Marilyn); grandchildren, Dawne Noworyta (Gene), Kelli McClure (James), Jason (Cathy) and Bonnie Tilley (Troy); great grandchildren, Zoe Annabella McClure, Greyson David Tilley, Rhys Harrison Tilley, Kai Asher McClure, and Tyler Michael Wheeler; loving "big sister" Jean Guyton; niece, Leslie Dunsmore (Jerry); and wonderful nephews whom she loved.
A Special thank you to Marla Smith and her staff at Dignified Life of Houston, who along with Laura Pederson provided sensational loving care they gave to mom in her last years. You all are appreciated.
As she shared with grandson, Jason, when he asked how she was doing, she would always say, "just toodling along". We like to think Mom is just toodling along to her next adventure in Heaven.
