Born on April 5, 1948, Margret lived a life marked by strength, resilience, and an unwavering love for her family. A proud retiree of HM Dunn Co., she worked many dedicated years before enjoying her well-earned retirement.
Margret was known for many things, but her greatest joy, her #1 hobby, was heading to the casino to play the slot machines, always calling it her “ching ching”. It was even more special because she often went with her siblings and their spouses. She also loved cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers, collecting owls, and spending time with the people she loved especially her breakfast meetups with her siblings that she always looked forward to. But above all, Margret was best known for her cooking. She was the best cook ever, if you asked for it, she would find a way to make it. Every dish was made with love and everyone who tasted her food felt that love. One of her greatest joys in her later years was teaching her great-grandchildren how to make tortillas, passing down tradition and pieces of herself they will always remember.
Among her siblings, Margret was the daredevil, feisty, spirited, and always ready to take on anything. Yet she carried a deep tenderness, remaining caring, loving, and family-oriented all her life. A fighter from the very beginning, she overcame polio at a young age and continued to show that same strength throughout her life. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her warmth, stories, and unforgettable dishes will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Margret is preceded in death by her parents, Ambrosio and Elnora Mata; and siblings Lois Ortiz, Rachel Pacheco, Charles Mata, and Willie Rudy Mata.
She is survived by her children, Michelle Giosio and Fernando Zamora; grandchildren Angelica Sotelo (Freddy), Alexandria Giosio, Arianna Rydman (Zachary), Trea Calton, and Donyei Zamora; great-grandchildren Maxim Sotelo, Mila Walker, Cadence Sotelo, Klayton Rydman, Micah Calton, Ca'loni Calton, and Ka'lyah Calton; siblings Moses Mata, Joseph Mata, Ambrosio Mata Jr (Sylvia), Louis Lee Mata, Thomas Mata, Ricky Mata, Lonita Munoz (Ernie), and Becky Rios; her very close cousin, Marcella Schmunk; and numerous nieces, nephews, close friends, and extended family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Shannon Rufe Snow Drive Funeral Chapel, located at 6001 Rufe Snow Dr, Fort Worth, Texas, 76148. The service is scheduled for December 11, 2025, starting at 2:00 pm.
