Marilyn was born on the Weinheimer family farm in the Meusebach community near Fredericksburg, TX on December 1, 1932, to Alfred F. and Gertrude (Stehling) Weinheimer. She attended the single-room Meusebach Creek community school through elementary and graduated in 1950 from St. Mary’s Catholic High School in Fredericksburg, where she played basketball, softball, was on the pep squad and was chosen as Fredericksburg’s representative to Bluebonnet Girls’ State. She went on to receive her nursing degree from Seton School of Nursing in Austin, TX, in 1953.
During nursing school, Marilyn met her husband of 69 years, James D. Llewellyn, a law student at the University of Texas. After her nursing degree, they married August 23rd,1953 in her hometown of Fredericksburg, Texas. Marilyn would continue to work at Seton Hospital while Jim completed his degree in 1954.
After spending two years in Germany with Jim’s army service, Marilyn and Jim settled in Fort Worth in 1956 to work and raise their growing family. Marilyn specialized and thrived in obstetrics and pediatrics throughout her 44-year nursing career. She began at Seton Hospital in Austin with rotations in New Orleans and continued in Fort Worth through St. Joseph’s Hospital, Dr. John Richardson’s pediatric practice, and finally with James G. Stouffer’s OB/Gyn practice. She touched and cared for a countless number of lives and attended an untold number of births, including some of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marilyn was a strong, calm voice for her patients, and they relied on her, many of them counting her as family. She retired in 1997.
Marilyn was a very active member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church of Fort Worth, where their children also attended elementary school, and most recently was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle (Lake Worth).
Marilyn was most proud of the family she and Jim raised together: 8 children (7 sons and 1 daughter), 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was loved and will be missed by all of them.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband James D. Llewellyn, her son David Llewellyn, her parents Alfred F. and Gertrude (Stehling) Weinheimer, and her sisters Pat (Weinheimer) Knopp and Sandra Weinheimer. She is survived by her children, Frank (Arleen) Llewellyn, Robert (Shirley) Llewellyn, John (Tina) Llewellyn, Paul Llewellyn, Steve (Shannon) Llewellyn, Sandra (Greg) Yeric and Charles Llewellyn, 22 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren.
