Carrie O’Baugh, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, soon-to-be-great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas, at the age of 79. Born on October 25, 1945, in Austin, Texas to Eladio Gomez and Maria Soto, Carrie lived a full and meaningful life marked by service through teaching, friendship, and a deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures.
After graduating from Texas Woman’s University, Carrie went on to marry the love of her life, Tom O’Baugh. Residing in Fort Worth for the duration of their lives, Carrie worked proudly in the Birdville school district for 30+ years. After retirement, she returned to substitute teach in the Kennedale school district where her granddaughters attended. Her time with students gave her joy, and her colleagues became lifelong friends.
After her retirement, Carrie continued to enjoy her new freedom. Though she lost Tom in 2006 to cancer, she found other ways to bring joy into her life. She especially enjoyed watching Dallas Cowboys football games with her family, taking road trips with her daughters and granddaughters, and enjoyed a glass of wine every now and again. She loved spending time in her daughter’s backyard, and she always tuned in to ION for Hawaii 5-0. She became a mother to all of the cats and dogs she came across, feeding them treats, snoozing with them, and drawing eyebrows on them from time to time. She had a special love for 70s and 80s country music, which reminded her of her time with Tom. On many occasions she dusted off her boots and joined her family to see live music, among them Dolly Parton, Martina McBride, Little Big Town, and her all-time favorite performer, Eddie Raven. She always loved the color red, because it was vivacious, like her spirit.
Carrie welcomed everyone into her home. She was a wonderful cook, known for her Chex mix, beef tips and rice, sausage balls and “dump cake.” She always had a gift for everyone at the holidays, even if it was a bracelet that she teasingly regifted to its owner or a funny pair of socks. She loved to spoil her family.
Carrie was good-natured, cheerful, and she had a compliment for everyone. She will be remembered as a source of strength and love, someone who was always there and ready to bring warmth and light into their lives.
She is preceded in death by her late husband Tom O’Baugh, her parents, and her son-in-law Mark Rhodes.
She is survived by her daughters Carrie Ann Rhodes and Jennifer O’Baugh, and daughter-in-law Jill Broussard. She leaves behind cherished granddaughters Megan Rhodes and Jaiden Rhodes. She is survived by her sisters Lydia Dearman, Dee Jackson and Rosalinda Mendoza. She has a large extended family and circle of friends who will miss her dearly.
Carrie O’Baugh lived a life full of love. She will be deeply missed.
