Great  fellow! He set a great  example  for all.

Mike and I started in the Dept.of Public Welfare together (before all the dept. name changes we suffered thru).  We shared an office.  many experiences, and a lot of laughs. He was always enthusiastic and tireless in his endeavors, and never lost sight of his clients needs.

Mike Martens was my FIRST Supervisor with the Dept of Public Welfare...He will be missed-  He provided support and encouragement on a daily basis...He never forgot about the people we were trying to serve.....On the day of the famous ice storm and the INCIDENT, Mike was on the job...He will be missed.  May God comfort you in your time of grief.

Mike was my program director for 1 month in 1986 before I transferred to another position in DHS, but I had known him since 1978 when I was at 4th St. Mike was an original-funny, creative, controversial, and always a hard worker. My condolences to the Martens family.

Mike was a good man and will be missed.  He was always there if you needed him. I do not recall a time when he said no to anyone in need.   He was a strong, intelligent and trustworthy man.   He is an example of one that put the "human" in human being.  I had great respected for him.  He will be missed.  To the family, be encouraged and I pray God will give you strength and peace during this difficult time.

Condolences to the Martens family; Mike was a wonderful guy.  He worked for the state for many years and he help many people.

I thank Mike for his dedication to the people of the state of Texas and his long service at the Tx Dept. of Human Services.  We will miss him.

Mike was my program manager at DHS from 1981 through 1991, my hearings manager from 1994 until he retired and a friend since 1979.  He was one of the best bosses I ever had.  Mike realized management existed solely to support their staff, and he did whatever it took to ensure we had what we needed to do our jobs.  He was one of the most intelligent, and definitely the most creative person I've ever known.  Mike was a good friend, a strong family man and I'll miss him.

Mike was a good friend to me a long time ago when we worked together at Texas DPW. We had many wonderful conversations about life, work and faith. Mike never said no to a friend and was always willing to help when asked. Over the years I have thought many times that I should reach of to Mike and close the miles between us with conversation about past times and the people we knew. I am sorry I never got to do that.
