He grew up as a Baptist country pastor’s kid in Southern Louisiana during the Great Depression. At age 19, while serving on a war ship during WWII, he answered God’s call to ministry. He and his beloved wife, Evelyn, married in 1946. Pat later received doctorates in Theology (THD) and Philosophy (PHD) from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Over the years, he impacted thousands of lives. First as a pastor in California and Texas. He and Evelyn became missionaries with the International Mission Board in 1959, where he served as a seminary professor in Torreon, Mexico (1961-1963), a field missionary in Yucatan (1963-1966), Seminary Director (Torreon and Mexico City 1967-1985). In his final years in Mexico City, he was a church planter and pastor, as well as a professional counselor where he counseled and witnessed to people in the secular world. Upon retirement (1990) he became an associate pastor, teacher and head of counseling at First Baptist Church, Kingwood, Texas. He and Evelyn moved to the Fort Worth Area in 2011 to be closer to family.
He also wrote 15 books. Most were fictional, based on either Bible characters or his own life story. He was a risk taker, a lover of adventure and new challenges. He loved his family deeply and loved interacting, witnessing to, teaching, mentoring, and inspiring people in general. His deep love for Mexico and its people never waned.
Above all, he was a lover of the Lord and always listened to His voice and obeyed, no matter what.
We, his family loved him dearly and were proud to call him Dad. He is survived by his son, David Carter and daughter -in-law, Vicki, his daughter, Linda Bullard and son-in-law, David, and daughter Carol Martinez, 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
His parents, James and Marie, wife Evelyn, and many other loved ones were already in heaven and were surely part of his welcoming committee. We know that he is now rejoicing in his eternal home, catching up with loved ones and above all, worshiping His Savior and King in the great Throne Room.
