Peggy Frances Underwood Grandey, a beloved wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 24th, 2024, at the age of eighty-seven. Born on February 12, 1937, Peggy was a beacon of love, kindness, and resilience throughout her life.
Peggy was the youngest of two daughters born to Lottie Mae and E.W. Underwood. Raised in a home filled with love and strong values, she carried these values into her own family, where she was known for her unwavering support, gentle guidance, warmth, and her ever-present smile she brought to every gathering.
After graduating from Paschal High School and Texas Christian University, Peggy married a young man she had known in high school and fell in love with during their time at TCU, Wendell K Grandey, II. June 4th, 1959. She then began teaching and molding young minds to be the best version of themselves. Her hard work and commitment to teaching those children can be seen throughout the city of Fort Worth and beyond, from students she may have taught in school to the children she taught in Sunday school at Westcliff United Methodist Church. However, it was her role as a devoted wife and mother to Teri and Trent that truly defined her life. Peggy's love for her family was the cornerstone of her existence, and she cherished every moment spent with her loved ones.
Peggy was known for her vibrant spirit and compassionate heart. She was an active member of The Woman’s Club of Fort Worth for more than 50 years, and charter member of the Venture Club that began in 1976. During her years, she served in many official positions including Director on the Board of Directors as well as being the leader of the TIGGS. Known for their customized lyrical tunes, Peggy led The Installation Girls Group, bringing smiles, laughs and sometimes tears during the beginning of each new season. She contributed her time and energy to numerous causes close to her heart. Her home was always open to friends and family, and she was always the gracious host who made everyone feel welcome.
Throughout her later years, Peggy found joy in her five grandchildren, eight loyal, loving cocker spaniels and the blessings that came with extended family. Holidays and birthdays were always her favorite. She had a special talent for being able to make each more beautiful than the last and everyone felt as if they were the most special in her eyes. She was a source of wisdom and love, always ready with a comforting word or a listening ear.
Peggy's legacy is one of love, kindness, and generosity. She leaves behind a family who adored her and countless friends who will miss her dearly. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to be part of her life.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 65 beautiful years, Wendell Knox Grandey, II; their two children Terri York with her husband Jason of Ft. Worth and Trent Grandey with his wife Ande of Grapevine. Peggy’s legacy will continue to live through her grandchildren: Tyler Jenkins, with his wife Olivia, and their children Halle Evans, Tyler Knox and Jackson Jenkins of Ft. Worth; Christopher Maxwell with his wife Erika, and their children Christian and Cristina Maxwell of Waxahachie; Mallory Grandey of Wills Point; Gates Knox Grandey of Watauga; and Briar Bay of Stephenville.
Peggy also leaves behind a niece and nephew she thought of, and treated, as her own, Becky Lowe and Scott Farrell. Their families include Becky with her husband Anthony of Dallas, and their boys, Peggy’s great-nephews Bobby and his wife Marcy Wilson of Dallas; Blake Wilson of Austin; and Ben Wilson of Dallas. Scott Farrell with his wife Elizabeth, and their children adding more “great” love, Matthew, and Mitchell Farrell, of Plano and Meredith Holser of Denver, Co.
Services to celebrate Peggy's life will be held on August 30th, 2024, at Arborlawn United Methodist Church. Viewing and visitation to begin at 10am in The Commons of Arborlawn UMC followed by her Celebration Service in the sanctuary of Arborlawn UMC at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Peggy’s name supporting Danny Wright's music, which Peggy so dearly loved. Danny was a dear friend to Peggy since they met when he was in high school with Terri and Trent. They remained in touch ever since, and Peggy dearly loved Danny and his music. Danny has graciously donated his time to play at Peggy's service on Friday, where he will be performing a song he wrote just for Peggy. Danny is including that song, Heaven's Angel, Peggy's Theme, on his next CD. Please Venmo donations to @Danny-Wright-60, if asked for verification, the number is 2648.
