

Richard Ray “Duck” Thompson, 71, gained his heavenly wings on Friday, December 22, 2023, after a short battle with cancer.
Richard was born February 27, 1952, in Fort Worth, TX to Samuel and Alma Thompson. After graduating from I.M. Terrell High School in 1971, and began working in different industries until he found his passion with The City of Fort Worth for over 21 years of service.
In 1969, Richard met Betty Pye Thompson at I.M. Terrell High School who quickly became his sweetheart. After a long courtship they vowed forever and death do us part on September 9, 1983. With their 40-year union a beautiful bouncing girl, Keena Thompson was born to share in their already blended family of Roderick, Brian and Mia.
Later in life Richard found the Lord and rededicated his life under the leadership, Pastor Michael Bell, Greater St. Stephen First Church until his death.
Richard was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. He was generous, loyal, and brave.
Richard enjoyed watching football and cheering for his beloved teams Kansas City Chief and Dallas Cowboys. In 2015, Richard retired and spent his time fishing, traveling and hanging with his family. Before taking ill he enjoyed dancing and hanging out with friends on the weekend.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Alma Thompson, his oldest sister, Ruby White.
He is survived by his loving family to carry on his legacy; Wife, Betty Thompson; Children, Roderick Pye, Brian McFarland (LaKeisha), Mia Thompson, and Keena Thompson; 15 Grandchildren and 10 Great-grandchildren; host of nieces and nephews;
Richard is also survived by his youngest sister, Nettie Thompson; special nephew, James Pye and special nieces, Sonyette Wade and Chermuna Wade, and host of family and friends.
