He graduated from Liberty High School in 1964 and began his college education at Abilene Christian College, attending from 1964 to 1966. He later completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of Texas Permian Basin in 1989 and went on to earn a Master’s degree from Texas Tech University in 1990.
On August 20, 1966, Rodger married the love of his life, Nancy Lynn Campbell. Their marriage of 59 years was marked by devotion, laughter, and shared adventures. Together, they raised one son, Paul Clayton Bednar.
Rodger worked for 16 years as a sales representative with Southwestern Bell Telephone before discovering his passion for education. He spent seven years teaching at the University of Texas Permian Basin and another thirteen years at Tarrant County
College, where he was a respected and inspiring professor.
An active member of The Hills Church, where he taught an adult Bible class for many years, Rodger was known for his deep faith, generous spirit, and quiet strength. In retirement, he and Nancy enjoyed traveling the world together, and he cherished time spent fishing and being outdoors. Most of all, Rodger loved time with his family—especially his grandchildren, Campbell and Anderson Bednar, who brought him immense joy and pride.
Rodger is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; his son, Paul Clayton Bednar and daughter-in-law Amy Bednar; and his grandchildren, Campbell and Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alma and Clayton Bednar.
