Service: Handley Baptist Church on Thursday at 2:00 pm.
He worked at Convair Aircraft, now Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, as a painter on the B-36 Peacemaker bomber until he began his permanent career at General Motors Corporation in Arlington, Texas, in 1954 until his retirement in 1985. After retiring, he earned his heating and air conditioning certification through a technical school program. He used his A/C and heating skills to provide services to the local community, especially his church family and neighborhood friends until his death. He was a dedicated member and deacon of Handley Baptist Church, served in the Gideon Ministries in the 1960's, and taught intermediate boys Sunday School class. He was loved by many.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years in February of 2010.
Survivors: Sister Louise (Bill) Baldwin, Sister-in-law June Pappas, Daughter Claudia (Bob) Umpstead, Son James (Sara) Hardin, Grandchildren Holly (Lane) Holland, Hanna Umpstead, Andrew (Megan) Hardin, Tim (Louisa) Hardin, Alan (Casey) Hardin, Amy (Bobby) Dohr, Amanda Romenesko, and 6 great grandchildren.
