Velma Jo Smith

Service: Noon Friday at Gambrell Street Baptist Church, 1616 W. Gambrell St. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth. Visitation: The family will receive visitors 10 a.m. to service time Friday at the church.

Velma was born Sept. 13, 1919, to Benjamin and Martha Bow in Westminster. She married R.C Smith in 1941. The family moved from the country life into the city. She took a job at Texas Electric Service Co. Velma retired from TXU Electric in 1985 after 34 years of service as a statistical typist. She and her husband were longtime members of Gambrell Street Baptist Church. Her family remembers her as always being there for others, showing love and compassion to anyone who needed to be cared for. It was not uncommon for her to sit by a loved one's bedside until she knew they were on their way to recovery.

Velma has joined in heaven her husband of 62 years, R.C.; parents; and brothers, Ted Bow and John Bow.

Survivors: Those left to remember her include her son, Bobby Smith and wife, Rita; granddaughter, Brandy Reddell and husband, Nathan; great-grandson, Cyrus Reddell; nieces and nephews; extended family; her Gambrell Street Church family; and many dear friends.
