One of eight children, Veronica was born in Hays, Kansas, on August 11, 1941, to Martin and Pauline (Leiker) Degenhardt. She lived a life defined by devotion to her family, faith, and a strong work ethic that touched everyone who knew her.
A lifelong Catholic, Veronica found joy in simple and meaningful moments — fishing and camping trips, evenings at the bowling alley, and time spent with friends as a member of the Lucky Strike Bass Club. She was a proud and dedicated employee of United States Crystal Corporation for 27 years, serving as plant manager. Once retired, she loved birdwatching on her deck and settling into her recliner with a good book, where she would read for hours.
However, more than anything, Veronica cherished her family. Her home was the heart of countless gatherings, especially on Christmas Eve, when she welcomed everyone with her famous homemade chicken noodle soup. Her warmth, resilience, and unwavering love created a bond that will live on with those who knew her.
Veronica is survived by her loving sisters, Joyce Pfeifer and Verna Schumacher; her children, Ralph Ditto Jr., Pamela Moore, Michael Braun, and Gregory Braun; her grandchildren, Tiffany, Candice, Shelby, Chris, Travis, Joshua, Megan, Lacy, Cassie, Cameron, Madison, and Allison; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Ditto Sr.; her daughter, Sharon Kenyon; her siblings, Martin Jr., Frances, Viola Sack, Dolores Herrman, Fr. Gervase Degenhardt, and Esther Burghardt; and her grandson, Zachary Moore.
