Mr. Betancourt was born in Havana, Cuba and came to the United States in 1962 seeking freedom from the Castro regime. He attended Universidad de la Habana and was the proud owner of Farmacia Fela, a drugstore in downtown Havana. Upon his arrival in Massachusetts, Mr. Betancourt went to work for Polaroid Corporation as a Chemical Technical Specialist for 19 years until he retired.
Mr. Betancourt was known for many things, but he will be remembered most for his everlasting devotion to his family, his silliness and his eternally optimistic attitude. He was married to his beloved late wife, Delia, for 62 years. When her health declined, he sat by her bedside every day and held her hand until she passed. He was the life of every party and when he attended events, people specifically requested to sit at his table. And when times were tough, he always made the best of them…he often said…you can’t think negatively…believe and know that everything will be all right.
He is survived by his son Diego Betancourt and his wife, Sally, of Ashland. He was the devoted grandfather of Michael Betancourt and Stacy Betancourt, both of Ashland, and his great granddaughter, Savanna, also of Ashland.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, January 5, 2017 from 4-7PM at MetroWest Funeral & Cremation Services of Wadsworth-Chiappini, 318 Union Avenue, Framingham. A service will follow at 7PM. Interment will be private.
