
Robert Sargent Phillips passed away October 25, 2017, at MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham. He was born and brought up in Somerville and resided there for 30 years. He attended Somerville Public Schools, graduating from High School in 1946. He worked for Sears Roebuck & Co. in Cambridge for 12 years as a Department Manager. He accepted a position with Raytheon Co. in Wayland and was there for 34 years. He was married to Dorothy (Long) Phillips in 1957, and they moved to Framingham in 1959. He was a former member of the College Avenue Methodist Church in Somerville before moving to Framingham. He was an active member of the Park St. Baptist Church in Framingham where he served on many committees and sang in the choir before Park St. merged with the First Baptist Church in Framingham Center. Mr. Phillips’ fraternal ties include: Member of Alpha Lodge, A.F. & A.M., served as Alpha’s Blood Chairman for five years, was Wor. Master in 1971 and 1972, Chairman of Alpha’s 100’th Anniversary Committee. He was Secretary/Treasurer of the Natick 23’rd Past Master’s Association for three years, Instructor for the 39’th Lodge of Instruction, Past Jr. Grand Deacon, 1980, Past Grand Lodge Education Rep. to the 39’th Lodge of Instruction, Past District Deputy Grand Master of the Natick 23’rd Masonic District, Honorary Member of Meridian Lodge in Natick, member of St. John’s Lodge in Boston, Concord Royal Arch Framingham, Boston Commandry, serving on their Malta Degree Team. Member of the York Rite and Scottish Rite (alley of Boston) Bodies, Member of Aleppo Temple A.A.O.N.M.S., Past President of the Charles River Valley Shrine club 1976, appointed an Aide 1977, Past President of the Aides Association 1980, appointed Assistant Chief of Staff 1984-1985, Past President of Aleppo’s Past Masters Association 1988, member of the Circus, Rodeo, & Football Committees, New Year’s Eve. Committee, member of the 100 Million Dollar Club, Honorary Clown 1988, Honorary Member of Tigress Temple No. 153, and the Royal Order of Jesters, Court 103, Life Member of Aleppo Temple. He received the Joseph Warren Medal in Alpha Lodge on April 24, 2000. Along with his wife, Bob is survived by his niece Cheryl Doherty of Plymouth, and two nephews, Thomas Phillips of Manchester, CT, and Gerard Phillips of Milford, CT. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 1, at MetroWest Funeral & Cremation Service, Wadsworth-Chiappini, 318 Union Ave, Framingham from 4-8 pm with Masonic ritual at 7:30pm. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10am, 1’st Baptist Church, 48 Pleasant St, Framingham, followed by burial at Puritan Lawn Cemetery, 185 Lake St, Peabody.
