
Robert Spencer Whittemore of Marlboro, formerly of Weston, died peacefully Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at his residence, surrounded by his family. He was 90 years old and the beloved husband of Pauline R. (Jacques) Whittemore for more than 67 years.
Born November 9, 1925 in Waltham, he was the son of Charles F. and Gladys M. (Ogilvie) Whittemore of Weston. Mr. Whittemore was raised in Weston, was a graduate of Weston High School, class of 1943 and attended Franklin Institute in Boston. He served proudly in the United States Navy during World War II, as an Electrician's Mate in the Pacific Theater. There he served aboard the USS Starlight, a troop transport which participated in the invasion of several Pacific islands.
Mr. Whittemore was employed as a machinist, first with Reed Manufacturing and later with the Richard H. Bird Company of Waltham, later known as Bird Precision Jewels, for over thirty-five years. He retired in 1996.
In addition to his wife Pauline, he leaves his devoted son, Robert S. Whittemore Jr and his wife Judith of Marlboro and Fredericksburg, VA, his adoring daughter Susan Oliveira and her husband Fernando of Sudbury and his loving brother, Alden H. Whittemore and his wife Shirley of Maine & Florida. He was also the cherished grandfather of Nancy Whittemore, Nicole Wright and her husband Thomas, and Abby and Nick Oliveira; proud great-grandfather of Tiffany and Cierra West and Autumn, Charlotte and Thomas Wright. He was a very dear brother-in-law to Marjorie Jacques, Barbara Jacques, Mary McCauley and Shirley and Joseph DePalma, as well as a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
A true gentleman, proud but humble, Bob was known for his love of his family, his love of life and smiling faces, firm handshakes and strong hugs. He enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, tending his backyard bird feeders and spending time outdoors enjoying nature. He spent many summers in Truro on Cape Cod, where he loved exploring with his wife and playing with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Private interment will take place at Linwood Cemetery in Weston. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM Saturday, October 8, at St. Julia Parish, 374 Boston Post Road, Weston.
